It’s why we’re driven to ensure that every level of our production process is sustainable and fair. From the wild harvesting of our natural active ingredients to the formulating, manufacturing, packaging and selling of our products, our responsibility towards people and the planet is something that we take very seriously.
Our raw ingredients come directly from the source because we venture there to get them. Through this, we are able to positively impact and uplift communities around the world. As an accredited partner of PhytoTrade, we support the thousands of people who harvest our ingredients as part of co-operatives in remote areas.
As much as we stand for family and fun we like to take our certification, ingredients and endorsements very seriously. It's our goal to become carbon neutral and we proudly do our very best to ensure that the products you buy from us are sustainably sourced, ethically manufactured and above all, safe to use daily.
USDA ORGANIC CERTIFIED
Yorba are proud to have several USDA CERTIFIED ORGANIC products. Where possible, Yorba always goes the extra mile to ensure safe and organic ingredients for our products. In some cases our ingredients are sustainably wild-harvested in remote areas that do not permit organic certification (despite being the most organic of all…)
USDA certified organic products are produced without the use of synthetic preservatives, petrochemicals, ionizing radiation, or pesticides. The USDA has established a national standard for organic labelling.
USDA Certified Organic, as defined by Wikipedia:
Organic certification is a certification process for producers of organic food and other organic agricultural products. In general, any business directly involved in food production can be certified, including seed suppliers, farmers, food processors, retailers, and restaurants. Requirements vary from country to country, and generally involve a set of production standards for growing, storage, processing, packaging and shipping that include:
- Avoidance of most synthetic chemical inputs (e.g. fertilizer, pesticides, antibiotics, food additives, etc.), genetically modified organisms, irradiation, and the use of sewage sludge;
- Use of farmland that has been free from synthetic chemicals for a number of years (often, three or more);
- Keeping detailed written production and sales records (audit trail);
- Maintaining strict physical separation of organic products from non-certified products;
- Undergoing periodic on-site inspections.
ECOCERT is an organic inspection and certification organization based in France. It was started in 1991 and currently operates in 80 countries making it the largest organic certification organization in the world. Certified Organic cosmetics undergo a rigorous certification process that starts at the raw materials right through to the finished product including the packaging. ECOCERT are constantly striving to be better and this is a partner Yorba loves to work with. There are many products that contain misleading marketing, ingredients and packaging claiming to be organic, or natural when in fact they are anything but. While the certification process is detailed and costly we believe it is well worth it and important to our customers. Trust is earned and Yorba wants to earn that trust through transparency and commitment to a better world. Yorba is certified every single year and we often use ECOCERT as a litmus to ensure we are well above any requirements and standards.
Many of the Yobra ingredients come from very remote places on the planet. We use these ingredients because they are highly effective AND organic. We believe that organic can be effective. It is essential that while we may be organic certified we also wanted to make sure that our ingredients and products leave the least impact on the environment while enriching people’s lives. A tall order to get right but a non-negotiable for our brand and our personal beliefs. Our CEO has lived and travelled through the Southern African region and seen massive poverty and biodiversity destruction despite the richness the continent has to offer.
Phytotrade was established in 2001. Their purpose is to alleviate poverty and protect biodiversity by developing an industry that is not only economically successful but ethical and sustainable. Once you attach a value to something it can be protected. Phytotrade educate rural communities in wild harvesting and farming in a sustainable manner. This has a waterfall effect by:
- Creating employment and wealth in communities that are some of the poorest on the planet.
- Educating the communities on sustainable farming not only for natural resources but food crops.
- Providing a deep sense of worth and pride that has massive generational effects.
- Protecting ingenious plants and trees that have massive bio wealth and have yet to be fully explored for medical uses.
- Eradicating alien species of plants and trees that are then used for firewood or other uses.
PhytoTrade services include raw material sourcing, collaborative R&D, marketing support and many more. We are a proud partner with PhytoTrade.
THE VEGAN SOCIETY
The Vegan society works towards making veganism an easily adopted and widely recognised approach to reducing animal and human suffering.
The Vegan Society was founded in November 1944 and has grown into a global organisation. The Vegan Society has had a huge impact on worldwide by introducing veganism to not only consumers but to business and manufacturers alike. They are vocal about animal rights and surprising human rights to a sustainable world where resources are utilised justly.
To be eligible for the Vegan Trademark, all products and services undergo stringent checks to meet thier high standard. The Vegan Trademark not only guarantees that products and the manufacturing processes are free from animal products, by-products and derivatives; but that they are also free from animal testing and genetically modified organisms (GMOs) that include animal genes. Manufacturers and suppliers are also expected to take all reasonable steps to eliminate cross-contamination, plus have to agree to annual checks.
PEOPLE FOR THE ETHICAL TREATMENT OF ANIMALS – PETA
PETA needs little introduction to most and is the largest animal rights organization in the world. Their dogged (yes we said Dog) mission and approach is just what we love at Yorba. They are passionate about protecting animal rights and live their beliefs. They work tirelessly to promote the PETA vision and include over 3 million members that includes celebrities and politicians. We love that they don’t only have a voice but back up their action with research and data. They have copious amounts of information for anyone who is willing to take the time to learn about animal cruelty and how we can prevent it. PETA are not just a passive organisation and in action they have no fear taking on large corporations or network television to protect animals and their rights. GO PETA!!
